90 Day Visas

If you have a one year multiple entry visa for Thailand and a valid work permit, you normally have to report to the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office (PPIO) every 90 days and receive a new stamp in your passport.

Confusion can arise if you travel often because people are not sure if the 90 days starts from the last visit to the PPIO or from when you arrive back in Phuket and get a new stamp.

The word from an official at the PPIO is that if you stay in Thailand less than 90 days under a 1 year multiple entry visa and you travel often, leaving the country each time, you don’t need to report your 90 day stay at the PPIO.

This is because the airport immigration officer will see this when you pass through immigration and they will give you the new arrival stamp.

Visa holders have also been told they have to bring their house registration papers to register at the PPIO. This is because under Thai law, every foreigner who enters Thailand must inform the imigration office where they are staying.

Hotel officers are responsible for doing this for tourists, but house owners must inform the PPIO if they have foreigners living in their home.

Foreigners can also inform the PPIO themselves if they have a current rental contract. This is not a new law and can be done in several ways… either in person at the respective office, through an authorized person at the respective office, by registered mail or online.
